Grampian Credit Union: Empowering Underserved Communities in Aberdeenshire Through Financial Workshops

Grampian Credit Union is proud to introduce a series of workshops as part of our Project” “Community Financial Empowerment Aka People help People”, aimed at empowering adults from underserved communities across Aberdeenshire. These sessions are designed specifically for individuals who may have limited access to mainstream financial education and support services. Whether facing financial hardship or simply seeking better ways to manage their money, participants will find practical, relevant guidance tailored to their needs.

Workshop Overview:

This comprehensive, half day workshop focuses on the essentials of financial wellbeing. Participants will explore topics such as:

  • Budgeting Basics: Learn how to plan and track spending, understand essential vs. non-essential expenses, and set realistic financial goals.
  • Understanding Your Finances: Gain insight into how personal income, bills, and debt interact—giving individuals a clearer picture of their financial health.
  • Financial Literacy: Develop confidence with everyday financial terminology and processes, empowering better decision-making.
  • Savings and Loans: Discover the importance of saving, how to build a savings habit, and how credit unions offer fair and transparent loan options.
  • Avoiding Debt Traps: Understand the risks of high-interest borrowing and how to avoid cycles of financial dependency and poverty.
  • Finding Affordable Alternatives to Banks: Learn about trusted, community-based financial services—including the support and ethical practices of credit unions like ours.

By the end of the session, attendees will not only leave with useful tools and strategies but also with connections to affordable, non-profit financial services that put people before profits. The workshop encourages questions, group discussion, and one-to-one support for those who may need more personalized guidance.

Who Should Attend?
These workshops are ideal for adults in the Aberdeenshire area who feel excluded from traditional financial systems or who simply want to take control of their money in a safe, supportive environment.

Grampian Credit Union is committed to financial inclusion. Through education and community engagement, we aim to help people build stronger, more secure financial futures—without pressure, judgment, or jargon.
