 Safety of Your Savings Continued

ABCUL Chief Executive Mark Lyonette:
“As credit unions do not rely on borrowing from other banks or the international money markets and are not in the business of buying up the debts of other financial institutions they are well sheltered from the economic turmoil which is causing worry for so many people at the moment. Credit unions use the savings of their members to make loans to other members and are very self contained institutions.
“Directors are volunteers who are elected from the membership of the credit union, by the membership of the credit union so only have the well being of the credit union and its members to consider – their decisions are not influenced by the demands of external shareholders or short term fluctuations in share prices.
“The events of the last few weeks have given enormous weight to our belief that mutual and local financial services such as credit unions are the way forward in making sure that individuals and families have safe and secure financial services.
“Savings in credit unions are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme in the same way as deposits held in banks and building societies are. The extra compensation limits which have recently been announced are to be welcomed in helping people have peace of mind that their hard earned savings are protected. “
Is Your Money Safe in the Credit Union?

In light of the current credit crisis many of you may be worried about how safe your money is with us.
Grampian Credit Union would like to reassure all its members that their money is 100% safe.
Like other financial service providers each member’s savings are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to the value of £50,000.
If you have any further queries feel free to contact the office.

 Recommend a Member Promotion

Congratulation to Sandra McNally, winner of our recent promotion to recommend the most new members between 1st March and the 31st April.
Due to Sandra’s outstanding efforts we have welcomed four new members to Grampian Credit Union.
Sandra who works for the NHS has been continually spreading the credit union message since joining in 2005.
On receiving the news that she had won Sandra was delighted especially as she had never won anything before.
Remember, although this promotion is over, members will still receive a £5 M&S voucher for each new member they recommend.
We would like to thank all our members for their recent efforts in promoting Grampian Credit Union. The bigger we are the more we can do for our members. Save for Xmas 2008

Have you been left a little out of pocket at this time of year?
Grampian Credit Union now offers a safe place to save for next Xmas where members can keep money locked away until November 2008, separate from other savings. All savings are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, so in a similar situation to Farepak, money paid into Grampian Credit Union would be returned to members. It is also covered by free life protection.
Many of our existing and potential members lost money through the collapse of the Farepak Xmas hamper scheme. We want to give our members back their confidence in saving for the festive period and help them save towards the Xmas they deserve.
For more information or to open a Christmas Account call the office today.
